The seismic methods of applied geophysics are used for determining speed of pervasion of shear Vs and longitudinal Vp waves in earth layers.
The compiled diagrams, charts and others serve for determining:
- Lithological section – methods of reflected and refracted waves, seismic logging, seismic tomography, ultrasounding research, etc.;
- Calculation of dynamic seismo-mechanical characteristics of lithological varieties, namely:
→ speed of pervasion of of shear S and longitudinal P waves
→ dynamic Poisson ration µ
→ dynamic elasticity module Е
→ dynamic section module G
→ dynamic volume expansion module К
These characteristics are used for calculating a number of parameters in geotechnics, engineering geology, hydrogeology, seismic micrologging, geoecology, etc.
Seismic methods are implemented on surface (seismic profiling of S and P waves) and in boreholes (seismic logging of S and P waves).
